Do you think there would have been more or less criticism of the Cup regulars running in the Busch Series if?

Dale Jr. would have run the entire Busch season and won the championship in a close points battle with Edwards.

There would have been more TV viewers, more ticket sales, more sponsorship exposure, etc..

What do you think?

... No not really because I have heard complaints from all of the driver's fans and it's not just Jr fans or any group of fans complaining.

... Now the fact remains that Dale Jr does have the largest fan base and if 50% of each of the drivers fan base were to start or stop complaining about something then your statement would be correct in that sense.

... I think the second part of your question is true to an extent but I believe most fans are more interested in the Cup series. Yes Dale Jr running in the Busch series would have had an impact but I think a large majority of fans are looking for his sucess in the Cup series now.

I hate having any cup guys run in the nationwide series. While I understand MLB guys play in the minors after an injury but to me racing is different. Its not a stick and ball sport.

The bottom line is money and having a cup driver run on saturday will fill more seats, increase add revenue for the networks however it does increase their chances of getting hurt.

Also, you cannot say that Dale Jr. would have won the championship in the Busch series if he had run the whole series. Jr motorsports wasn't all that great and do you remember all the mechanical issues he had with DEI cars?

I strongly believe that any full-time Cup driver should only be allowed to run 10 Busch races a season. Keep the points battle between the guys that are there every week, using the Busch series as a stepping stone, not as something to do to make more money on Saturdays.

I think you might have something there. He does have most of the fans on his side and when he does well then the fans are happy!!! I KNOW there would have been more ticket sales and more viewers no question about that. I do think that the Cup drivers should be allowed to run the Busch Series, i think they make it more exciting to watch. I mean what more can i ask for seeing Jeff Burton race on Saturday and Sunday!!! I love It!!!

He does have the largest fan base, yes some of the tracks there would have been more fans in the stands, your idea with Jr and Edwards going for it, Chevy vs Ford would have been fun to watch, but then there would be the people pissing and moaning about Jr this and Jr that. It would have made for some excitement as far as the championship, since it was a total runaway this yr by Edwards.. I think real Nascar fans would love to have seen Ambrose and Ragan, Reutimann, Lefler out there going for the title, battling it out with 10 points between 1-4th place, that would have been awesome... But the sponsors, media, and the tracks with ticket sales would have loved a Jr, Edwards Battle for it...

Although Carl Edwards won the title this year I never have liked the Cup driver's running in the Nationwide series.

The Nationwide series used to be where Cup owners found their new driver's ,now they are having to resort to open wheel team's.

I believe that if Nascar is going to allow Cup driver's to run in the Nationwide series the driver should be lower the the top 20 or maybe even top 35 in point's .

When I first started watching Nascar in 93 you saw few Cup driver's in the Nationwide series .Sadly now it's pretty much always a Cup driver that win's the race's and the title.

My personal stand is , Bush series should be for a driver who is going up or going down in their career. Much the way minor league baseball is to MLB. But your last sentence is correct ,and as long as there is more money to be made by letting cup regulars run in the Bush, ( or Nationwide) ,series, then that is what will happen .Regardless of what the fans want.

Cup drivers should not run for the championship in the "busch" or "Nationwide" series.

And be limited to 12 Nationwide events at "non companion events"

I don't think that Cup drivers should race Busch. It takes away from the up and coming drivers in the Busch series to get a chance.

  • Speaking for myself only of course.. I still would be ranting about it, and I think ANY true NASCAR fan should too. It should be the grass root series for moving into CUP, like it was in the past. I still watch the Busch races, and enjoy them.. but I'd love to see a lot more of the young, unheard of talent, impressing us into making him a household name...

    Just my 2cents.
