Help! I am babysitting an iguana and it hasn't pooped in 7 days!?

I think it may be stress because it is very angry and it bit my boyfriend pretty badly! We had to take him to hospital! The other thing is I have been feeding it grapes latetly...do you think this has something to do with it? I tried to give it a warm bath yesterday but it hated it and it STILL hasn't pooped. I'm getting worried. What do I do?

Update:

I have done quite a bit of reading. I adjusted the temperature, gave it a bath and stopped giving it grapes. But it still hasn't pooped. So I don't know what to do.

Please do not use a heat rock. These can be dangerous and even deadly when they malfunction.

Iguanas enjoy baths, but it should be in water that is warm enough to bathe a human baby in. About 95-100 degrees.

It's good you've stopped the grapes. To many aren't good and can cause kidney problems. If there is a particulate substrate such as bark or wood chips - there is a potential for accidental ingestion and impaction. How long is this friend supposed to be gone? Did this friend leave you instructions and money for vet care?

7 days is a long time and I would worry. If it is impacted trying to force the impaction out could cause more damage than it could help. If there is no possible way for there to be an impaction than try the warm bath again and gently rub the belly in a counter-clockwise direction. Mind your hands!! You don't want to get bitten, too!!

I do recommend a vet and hope you can do this for this ig.

First of all, iguanas do not hate baths. They love water, and they are quite graceful swimmers. They also do not require any sort of pelleted or manufactured food. They are herbivores in the wild and graze off of trees, shrubs, and grasses. A good salad mix along with some mixed veggies and the occasional fruit treat is just fine.

It is important for the iguana to have an adequate heat source. They seem to like belly heat, so a hot rock or heat pad would work fine, just make sure that there are no 'hot spots' or that the over all heat isn't too high. Most reptiles don't seem to be smart enough to realize that they're getting burned. Test the heat source with the back of your hand or underside of your forearm to see if it's too hot.

Some iguanas prefer to defecate in water. Place a large container, such as a litter box full of warm water in the iguanas enclosure and stand back. It's going to be messy, and you'll have to change the water frequently, but it may the only way to get him to poop.

    Good luck!

    1. Iguana's HATE bath's they are clean animals, they're poop doesn't stick to their skin and neither does anything else unless it's really sticky.

    2. Does he/she have a heated rock? It's always important for an iguana to have a heated rock. Iguana's are used to a warm climate.

    3. Feed him food you see in pet stores. Yes it's easy to just give him a few carrots and lettuce but special food is more official, but you COULD mix in a little fruits, lettuce, and vegetables with it.

    4. What kind of iguana is it? Look it's picture up, maybe it eats bugs. My friends iguana loves to eat grasshoppers. But, this isn't the time of year for catching bugs.

    5. Please have it checked by a vet also. To make sure it's healthy and strong.

The owner of the Iguana should have left you a detailed list on how to care for the pet. At this point I would Google Iguana Care and see what sites offer the information you need to keep the pet healthy and alive until the owner returns.

    Here start reading!!!

Hey there! When a reptile goes over 3 days without releasing feces, something could be wrong internally. Make sure he has a comfortable environment, cuz he could seriously be stressed out. Maybe call the owner?
