Is it right to put a suffering animal to sleep in Judaism?
I read this http://www.asknoah.org/forums/showthread.php?tid=3... Post #2
I was wondering if this is a widely accepted view?
"In a similar way, we find cases in Jewish Torah Law where an animal dedicated for sacrifice becomes unfit for the Temple alter, but yet we are not allowed to redeem it or benefit from it in any way, so it is put out in a field and not fed, and it is left there to die on its own.
Aside from the uncommon issue of unfit unredeemable sacrificial animals, if one was to actively kill an animal not for the use of its hide or flesh, etc., but just for the sake of killing it to put it out of its misery with no material benefit to a human, then one has transgressed on being wasteful by destroying one of G-d's creations wantonly."

Lott: You're kinda braindead, aren'tcha. It's the ROMANS who crucify people. Jews never have done that.
To the Asker: You haven't gone far enough in that section. You're just reading a thread online. There are pages and pages devoted to this by our sages. The end result is that of course any animal that cannot be healed and will die of it's injuries or illness in pain, should always be put down so it doesn't suffer.
Some other examples:
In Judaism, we are always to be kind and compassionate towards animals -- it is Jewish law that we are even to feed our animals before ourselves.
We are also allowed to BREAK SHABBAT if we see an animal suffering under a heavy load so that we can take its burden off its back and help it.
This is why the story in the christian bible is so utterly false and ridiculous, where it says that the Jews wouldn't help a sheep stuck in a ditch lest they break Shabbat. Nothing could be further from the truth. By the way, this is just ONE of the lies the christian bible teaches about Judaism and Jews. It's an extremely antisemetic book.
P.S. I went and read the thread you cited. If you read down farther you will see that even cats owned by a person are not allowed to kill bugs and pests in the case that the cat is already well fed by the owner.

Animal sacrifice in the Old Testament was only a symbolic act that could never take away sins. That is why Messiah had to come to provide the sacrifice needed to forgive sin who is Jesus Christ who shed his own blood on the cross so we could enter heaven for those who believe.
