What do you say to your parents when you want something really badly, but you sort of know they won't get it?

I played the flute, but I never practice, and I sort of basically forgot how to play. So I want to play the guitar, but my parents might not get it for me because they think I won't practice. It always starts with little things. I played this arcade game at the movies, and I was really close to getting the ipod shuffle, but I didn't. Then a few months later for my B-day, I got the itouch. Now I want to get the guitar, because playing this guitar game inspired me. What should I say to my parents so that I can get them into buying it for me?!?!?!?!?!? Please help!

Update:

I hate practicing my flute, but I know I'm going to practice on my guitar.

You can get lessons even if you don't have a guitar.

Most music stores have guitars in reserve for such cases.

Why not commit to some lessons first, see if you truly love it, before asking your parents to buy you one?

Also, being you're old enough to be on this computer...you must be old enough to offer some sort of extra help to your parents...strike up a deal where you help them in some way to earn "credits" for your guitar?

Anything worth having is worth working for.

    Best of luck!

Well first of all you have to show your parents that you are actually responsible enough for it. You need to realize money does not grow on trees. We would love to give our kids everything, but that turns a lot of kids in to irresponsible, and expect every thing is free. So show your parents you deserve have them write up a contract or something. They can also rent one so they are not out a bunch of money when you all of a sudden decide that you dont want to do it.

Your parents knows you better then we do.... you have shown them that you want one thing than another.... they can't depend on you to carry out your word....that it not another whim..... you can't blame them for not wanting to waste their money.....tell them you are willing to work for it.... if you do this.... you will know how hard it is to make the money.... you will really think about what is important to you...
