He does not accept that people are being hanged just because a group of kids are accusing the ones that they hate to be witches. He does not believe that there are witches in Salem only that they exist in the minds of children. John Proctor is stands up for himself and others. When he pleaded that he was guilty and confessed for being a witch even though he was not. he still wouldn't let them post on the door of the church because he still had a sense of pride. He would not let the others go on trial because they were falsely accused. John Proctor is a perfect example of self reliance because of what he thought and what he stood up for in the witch trials.

Self reliance is when you speak your mind even if others don’t believe you or think you are crazy. An example of this is Richard Wright from the book Black Boy by Richard Wright. He spoke for himself by writing stories, fact or fiction. By doing that he was telling everyone who read it what he thought and even though everyone disapproves he still writes fiction. When he wrote the short story 'The Voodoo of Hell's Half-Acre' his grandmother disapproves and calls it the devils work because it was fiction not fact. Also another reason that Richard Wright is an example of self reliance is that he thinks and acts for himself. When he was about to graduate as the valedictorian he had to write an essay. He was given an essay prepared by the principal to say in the ceremony, but instead he wrote his own. He was treated unequally and given no respect, but later in life he earned that respect.

Richard Wright wrote what he wanted to say in the paper and said what he thought and that is what made him great.

Someone that is self reliant that I know is my mom. She does not do anything that seems wrong to her. When I was little she did not leave me alone for a second. She will listen to you before acting. My mom does things on her own and does not do anything that is against her instincts. She is an example of a self reliant person because she thinks and acts on her instincts.

Self reliance is thinking and acting for yourself. You create your own path that will lead you to your own freedom. You say what you want to say even if others think that you are wrong you will still know that you are right, you will know for yourself that you are right because your instincts tell you that. Self reliance is basically thinking and acting for one self with no one controlling you in anyway. Self reliance is really important because if no one is self reliant then the world will cease to exist as we know it. It is a great thing to listen to yourself and do things for yourself because that means that you are acting on your own free will.
