    3 1/3-2 2/5 =14/15

    3 1/3 = 10/3 = 50/15

    2 2/5 = 12/5 = 36/15

    50-36 = 14

    3 1/3-2 2/5 =14/15

    (3*3+1) / 3 - (5*2+2) / 5 = 14 / 15

    (9 + 1) / 3 - (10 + 2) / 5 = 14 / 15

    10 / 3 - 12 / 5 = 14 / 15

    10*5 / 3*5 - 12*3 / 5*3 = 14 /15

    50 / 15 - 36 / 15 = 14 / 15

    (50 - 36) / 15 = 14 /15

    14 / 15 = 14 / 15

Ok, convert those mixed numbers into fractions:

    3 1/3= 10/3

    2 2/5= 12/5

Now multiply so you get matching denominators:

    10/3 * 5/5 = 50/15

    12/5 * 3/3 = 36/15

Then you can subtract the numerators and put that answer over 15 to get the answer:

    50-36= 14, so the answer is 14/15

    3 1/3 - 2 2/5 = 14/15

    From left hand side

    = 3 1/3 - 2 2/5

    = 10/3 - 12/5

    = (10 x 5) / (3 x 5) - (12 x 3) / (5 x 3) .... this is so that you will get bottom 15 for both set

    = 50 / 15 - 36 / 15

    = 14 / 15

    = right hand side

You have to find the Least Common Denominator.

    LCD of 3 and 5 is 15.

    3 1/3=50/15

    2 2/5=36/15

    50-36=14

    therefore, 3 1/3-2 2/5=14/15

get a lowest common denominator. With fractions of 1/3, 3 being the denominator, and 2/5, 5 being the denominator, the lowest that can be used for these two is 15. thus your new question is 3 5/15 - 2 6/15. If your still having trouble, make the whole numbers fractions. your new question is 45/15+5/15 - 30/15+6/15. That equals 50/15 - 36/15= Wha laa 14/15. If you're having trouble ask your teacher for help. Believe me, your teacher is not the enemy. They do want to help.

Get the least common denominator (LCD) first and convert each, then subtract. Wha la

Multiplying 3 and 5 to give 15 as the LCD.

    3 1/3 = 50/15 (3 X 15/15)+ 5/15

    2 2/5 = 36/15 (2 X 15/15)+ 6/15

    subtract 14/15

    1. First, make everything into fractions.

    2. Then what you want to do is what they call "multiply by one," or the equivalent to get a common denominator.

    3. Subtract!

    1. 10/3 - 12/5 =14/15

    2. (10/3)*(5/5) - (12/5)*(3/3) = 14/15

    3. 50/15-36/15=14/15

    3 1/3 -2 2/5 =

    10/3 - 12/5 =

    50/15 - 36/15 =

    14/15

With fractions, always put the numbers over the lowest common multiple. In this case, the LCM of 3 and 5 is 15

  • 1 decade ago

    3 1/3 = 10/3

    2 2/5 = 12/5

    10 - 12 50 - 36

    3 5 = 15 15

    50-36= 14

    15

    you get 14/15
