Does anyone know why Court TV is switching to Tru TV?

What the heck is Tru TV anyway?

It probably has to do with the fact that they really don't show much court programming anymore. When the channel first started it was like Bloomberg, just streaming court video.

Now they do much more forensics and crime-related programming. Below is from the NY post:

The name change is meant to reflect the network's emphasis on shows featuring "true"-life or "true"-crime stories, which would seem to be what Court TV has always done.

The change is part of TV's current obsession with "branding" or, in this case, "re-branding." This particular effort stems from Court TV having been absorbed not too long ago by Time Warner's brand-happy cable network division

I think it is a smart move considering that in the past few years, the network has shown little court and a lot of reality shows. I watch the channel more now than ever because I like the reality shows that feature police chases and shocking moments. I think that ratings were sinking and they saw this as their only option.

Rebranding is often an attempt to revitalize a network after someone within the company decides they're just too "niche."

Game Show Network's decision to become GSN not long ago was an attempt to broaden their audience beyond game show fans alone... I suspect that's what's up with TruTv.

yeah I'd like to know that too. I love court Tv and it sucks that they're changing the name of the channel, I hope it's just the name.

I think they r trying to compete with CSI & popular shows like that.

The court shows r good, but I quess they don't have as big an audience.

The name change better reflects the network's programming and offerings.

We'll have to see how Tru they are to their viewers...
