I think I'd have to answer this question with another question: Would it make a difference if you could know what that fruit was specifically? Whatever it was, it was desirable to the human flesh in some way or another; and responding to that fleshly desire resulted in disobedience, sin, death and destruction, and a steadilly downhill spiral of absolutely everything in and on the earth. I guess I think this lesson regarding things that our flesh desires but would only satisfy for a moment is a much more important thing to think upon than what that fruit might have been in form. Oh it doesn't hurt to imagine... but the fact of the matter is that what that fruit was is not specifically stated - and so to sort of "fill in the blanks" of scripture where information is not provided can result in "wandering" a little too far away from truth. I've done it myself in my younger believing days.

That having been said, the best answer that I can come up with as to what the fruit might have been in form, is to compare it to other scriptures which use the same word (in literal Greek and Hebrew definitions from a concordance). Look there, and you will walk away with at least a "maybe" it was one of those same things. But in the end, if what you do end up with "is" a "maybe", let that be okay - in fact, I would suggest resolving that in your heart before you even look this up - that whatever you end up with, if you still do not have complete and total information / explanation regarding this thing or any other thing you study theologically, that information will be enough, and God remain the trustworthy God that He is, regardless of what you might - or might not - find.. :-)

It doesnt really matter what was on he tree, now does it? All that matters is the fact that Eve ate the fruit then had Adam eat it, too...it has nothing to do with sex...

The awarness of `self` and all that we are. The fig leaf in question some say, refers to the phyiscal bodies we now find our selfs in.

It is difficult to imagine as the plant has probably evolved into something else.

Even though it doesn't say which fruit they consumed, I think that the paintings by the greats were painted using the same type of device that god used for a person to write the holy scriptures. The answer then would be an apple.

Well, after they ate of the fruit, they realized they were naked. So, maybe it had something to do with sex?
