I'm making Burgoo for a pot luck with friends.

There will be the peas and cabbage for luck and cash.

We have a mix of ancestries, cultures and traditions. This gives us a great variety to what people bring to the table. Japanese Osechi dishes, Irish corn beef and cabbage, stewed ham & black eyed peas, Burgoo (Mulligan Stew), Fresh Sourdough and Navajo fry breads.

Start the year off with what is important for you, your friends.

They are what will carry you through the bad times and remind you of the good. So sharing a meal is a good start.

In the south it's collard greens for money, and black eyed peas for luck all year long.

At the stroke of midnight you must eat an apple to be healthy the whole year through!
