Hamster wheel hell !!!!!!!?

The noise the wheel is making, is it squeeqing or is it hitting the bars? If its the latter then your best off trying different wheels, There are ones you can get on stands, use appropriot glue to hold it to the base and that should eliminate either problems. I have had to buy 3 wheels which is a pain but my syrian doesnt make a sound at night now =)

In the wild hamsters would travel up to 8 miles a night on those little legs of theirs in search of food, so hamsters that are domesticated are just playing out an instinct that is built into them. But yes, your right, you would think that they would realise they are not getting anywhere fast! Hamsters diets can be quite high in fat to as they love sunflower seeds, hazlenuts, monkey nuts etc, and being in a cage all day can cause obesity in hamsters so its actually a way for them to kep healthy too. Me and my husband have had our male hamster a year, and he's no ones fool. He has never played on his wheel the whole time we have had him, so we have to make sure he comes out of the cage at least an hour every day to exercise.

sometimes the wheel cant be fixed. You can either try a new wheel, remove the wheel when you are sleeping or put the cage in a different room. I just used to use coking oil on the hamster wheel as other stuff may be harmful to the hamster if it licks it.

Try veggie shorting. Worked for my dwarfie. Or get her a ball and let her loose.

you should by a silent wheel, i was in the petsmart the other day and seen them, and they really do work! i seen hamsters running really fast, and you couldn't even hear anything!

yeah i know how you feel. the hamster wheel used to drive me CRAZY at night! put some olive oil on the squeaky spot.

but i recommend you get a silent hamster wheel. they're specially made and are called "super pet wheel". they're like soo much quieter and give you a good nights sleep! its worth buying

My hamster is one crazy runner at night (hamsters in the wild run anywhere between 5-30 miles every night). So I just put his cage in the bathroom at night time, and I sleep all through the night! I wouldn't try any toxic oils, these may be harmful to your fuzzy little friend. I would move the cage out of your room to a place where he/she can run till its heart's content without harming him/her and without interrupting your sleep. =)

try taking out the wheel and during the day you can let her play in one of those rolling balls for exercise

Ya get used to it i used to hav a althlete of a hamster and sum days i felt like grabbing an AK-47 and shooting the little thing but i got used to it =] or just go to ya pet shop
