Inducing Labor in Guppies??

I have a red-tail Guppy that is very pregnant, and she looks ready to explode! Is there anything I can do to help her/induce labor??

Just leave her in a quiet place. Give her plenty of plants to hide in and let nature take its course. If you try to isolate her she may abort because of the stress.

The worst thing you could do is induce her labor. Fish are very different from humans, humans can be induced and the babies will be just fine if they are over due. The fish however, it is vital at every step. Unless you watch your fish 24-7 there is no way to tell when your fish became pregnant, meaning you have no clue when the babies are ready to be born. I just bought a mollie yesterday and because the unintelligent pet clerk left her out of water too long she went into early labor. Two of the fish died, their egg yolks were still attached to their tiny little bellies. Now on the other hand, if you'd like to prepare for the birth, raise the temperature to around 78-79 degrees, gently (I stress that) relocate her to a quiet tank and puts lots of plants in there, and begin feeding her every few feeds a few bites of protein. Believe me, I've done my fair share of guppy births and they are wonderful when you know you've set up a nice place for her to rest and have them in a quiet well set up tank. Two of my guppies had their babies in a 1 gallon ice cream bucket with lots of plants, no gravel and a fine bubble air pump. They did fantastically. Also be sure to remove the mother before 12 hours or else she will eat her babies. The mother naturally produces a hormone that makes her not want to eat so she will be hungry, hence the protein. Good luck.

not really nature will take its corse and If you notice what looks like a little bit of white string coming from this area, she most likely just dropped a baby. Once you have a pregnant female I would suggest scooping her up in an isolation or breeder tank and placing it on the side of the aquarium. If these females get too stressed out they will be pregnant forever, until they eventually die. You cannot move the fish in a net or place it in a completely different aquarium because this will also stress her out.

Feed her some live foods if you can. If you cant, Try some Freeze dried blood worms. They always helps. Shut the light off too. And put your heater on 80-81F. That helps speed up the process and also helps the fry grow bigger.

    1. put her in a bare bottom fish tank loaded with plants

Java moss is best for protecting babies.

    OR

    2. put her in a breeder box, althogh this may cause stress, it worked for me.

    OR

    3. put her in a net breeder.

They all work just be sure to remove female after birth.
