Is anyone sick of music snobs?
those kind of people who are stuck on old school rock or grunge or emo and won't listen to anything else because they think it's crap?
I mean, I only listen to rock (and a bit of Eminem here and there [shh, don't tell]) but I listen to everything.
I mean like Sufjan Stevens to Slayer
Fall Out Boy to Metallica
Green Day to As I Lay Dying
Led Zeppelin to My Chemical Romance
are there any other eclectic people out there? Anyone that's as pissed as I am?

I primary listen to punk. And that's not as easy as it sounds. It's been getting very difficult to get a hold of new bands lately. All the concert halls are being flooded with emo/sceamo imitators. So that's why I spend a large portion of my time absorbed in that genre. Plus, it's been my favorite since I was little.
As far as eclectic goes, I don't limit my tastes to Rock (in my case Punk, Psychobilly, Metal, Rockabilly, etc). If you look in my collection you will find artists like Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, BB King, Sondre Lerche, Miles Davis, Shabba Ranks, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Dino, Englebert Humperdink, Tom Jones, Traditional Irish, Traditional Chinese, Bill Monroe, Kool Kieth, Handel, Mozart, and a whole lot more.
Now here is a question you have to ask yourself. Do you own anything from some of these artists or genres? or are you a Rock snob?

Being judgmental about music and people is ironic. Being open-minded about music and other peoples choice is a spiritual experience. everyone is entitled to their own opinion, idea, belief, and choices of music. If you are seeking validation for your opinion you will find it; however, if you are seeking to be right in your opinion there will be a handful that will follow your way of thinking. Be open minded and realize that the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and millenium have generations of recycled & new music. everyone's hearing is tuned differently. music is sometimes viewed as a timeline and comfort zone. some people find it akward to walk out of their timeline and comfort zone; others do not and embrace the journey of change with enthusiasm. Look at how many times the song "Umbrella" came out over the past ten years and only Fergie made it to the top. What is good now, might not be good later. What was good then, might not be good now. sort of like left overs: spaghettie and lasagnia good now and later; fish - only good fresh;

Yep. definitely. I'm tired of it as well. Especially throughout the Rock and Pop forum.
It's like we get it you're stuck in the 90's and we're in the 2000's it's not that big of a deal.
not everyone can have the same musical preferences.
that is the number 1 reason why I don't ask questions in the forum cause I'm tired off all the bashing.

I was just talking about this the other day! I can't stand those people who think they are so much more sophisticated than people who listen to mainstream music, just because they know a few underground names and refuse to listen to anything less. I like many bands that are underground and/or just not fully appreciated in the media, that doesn't mean I have to hate Soulja Boy and talk about how great it is to be me with the fantastic music interest I have due to taking the time to discover other music (as so many people do). I like what I like, I don't care what genre or how mainstream, underground, or classic the music is, it just has to sound good and set the tempo. And if I don't like it, then I don't listen to it, it's as simple as that. No need to complain about how crappy music I don't like is. I mean, the only time I "don't like" music is when I'm forced to listen to it, like when my girlfriend wont let me change the station when MCR is on =| !!! But other than that, if I don't like a band I just change the station, and leave it at that. I'm sure the majority of the "music snobs", are not being forced to listen to the crappy music they so often complain about. It doesn't bother me how much the rest of the world loves a band I don't like, because we all have different tastes in music, and we are ALL entitled to like what we like.

Some seem to know so much they won't offer the time to respond. The echo of "...if ya can't do nothing else, ya can still call yourself an artist Music is just a job. Ya punch out and go home. Best musicians I know are just regular people. I guess people develop an ear for music, some just like it.
From experience: music is live. it cannot be reproduced, and if you were not there - you missed it.

Not pissed, but I understand.
I have iTunes shuffle and I go from Arch Enemy to Frederic Chopin to The Casualties to Esteban.
But I'm a music snob in the way that I wouldn't listen to Fall Out Boy hah.

your music taste sounds almost exactly like mine.
Mostly anything in the Rock genres but the occasional song outside of that specific genre.
But I definetly can relate to what you mean by those people.
Just because it's something they don't like it automatically makes it crap, or something that isn't good quality.
Which does get very frustrating, i'm not sure i'd go as far as saying i'm pissed, by definetly i get frustrated.
But as much as people shouldn't be like that, they are. And unfortunately there's not a thing we can do about it.
So i just do the best i can, and ignore them, and let them make themselves sound ignorant.
But that's just my opinion...aha

I understand why people can get to be "music snobs" on this site. I thought some of MCR's stuff was okay when I started answering here, but the fans are so irritating sometimes. For example when I asked for some new bands... not MCR, I got like 5 people telling me MCR, it's pretty frustrating. I like most genre's too, I think that "music snobs" are born when a certain band is plastered everywhere... if you didn't like their music to begin with your going to hate them when you see them everywhere you go.
