Sadly, i am surrounded by people like that because of where i live. What i do is remain completely unacknowledged of the things they brag about. I do not confront, answer back or comment, just smile and go on with the conversation topic (if there was one to begin with). All that bragging and showing off are signs of a low self esteem and should not be addressed as anything other than comments, just as if i was commenting about the weather or something as trivial with you. That is the ultimate put-down.
