Do You Find It Disturbing That...?

There are so many young people posting their pictures on this site asking people to rate their appearance? Are people really that insecure that they have to ask perfect strangers what they think of their looks? What is the difference if 15 people you will never come in contact with otherwise think you're a 5 or an 8? Is it really going to help you sleep better at night knowing that somebody rated you a 7 out of 10? And what if they all rate you a 2? Are you going to go into hiding? Run out and get a nose job? Or just delete the question so it and the answers never existed?

The most disturbing part is that these 15 year olds, many times, post pictures where they are all sexed up and posing provacatively and because this site is not monitored, they open themselves up to being viewed and possibly contacted by any pedophile that happens across their question.

Does anybody else agree with me?

Update:

I'm 29 years old. Yahoo Answers, MySpace, Facebook and all that stuff wasn't around when I was 15 so I never had an outlet to ask the world how I looked.

I think a lot of people are rude on this site and I just don't understand why people would want to open themselves up to rude comments (much like the one Tony Blair so kindly gave as an example)

yes. body image is a really BIG thing nowadays. in my school, where we wear uniforms, girls compare everything from the size of your pencil case to how skinny you presently are. i would advise them not to be obeseed about that themselves, unless they are paid to be a bamboo pole.

I agree: What others think about your looks is irrelevant. Even if you yourself think you are not good looking what can you do about it except to go to a beautician.

However one might ask strangers about their looks in special circumstances for example, where she might believe she looks good but her friends are teasing her that she is ugly or she is eager to take to activities like modeling where good looks count.

But the dangers pointed out by you are real.

However, tell us why are you asking people to rate your well considered thoughts?

That is perhaps because you will not be able to make your opinion public unless you present it as a question.

It doesn't disturb me, but it is sad. It demonstrates that lots of kids feel inferior or very insecure. As for minors being contacted through Yahoo! answers, the system is fairly safe - you have control over whether or not someone contacts you. I'd worry more about the large numbers of kids who are cutting themselves.

Yes I agree. I guess what the 15 year olds don't understand is it does not really matter what anyone else thinks about them or their looks. What really matters is what they feel and think about themselves. I guess time will teach them that lesson.

Hi there yes i agree with you.

I think kids shouldn't do this as it will just upset them even more when they get idiotic replies as seems the norm on this yahoo.

It is who we are on the inside that counts not what we look like!

We all do it anyway "does this or that look alright on me" for instance so maybe is just bad habit but definitely no pictures too many damn weirdo's out there!!!

    Hi Caitlin,

    Yes, I agree.

    It is sad and scary.

It amazes me that this site does not

    police 'avatars/photos', however,

they do spend a lot of time policing

    silly entries.

Maybe they'll listen to you and

    begin checking on it.

    You've done good!

    Be well!

yes i find it extremely disturbing. I avoid those questions becuase some of these teenage girls go way out of their way posing for these pictures. they are just kids and they shouldnt have to even worry about their looks for many years too come.

i do, i answered a young girl asking people to say what they thought and i found it so sad. i told her she was too young. a guy said to her " id do ya" and that's the type of thing that happens. to say its not monitored i get my questions removed silly questions like what do you think of Russell brand! they removed it but yet they let that go on . no point complaining you do not get listened to

I totally agree with you...Ppl nowadays, have completely lost their self confidence, and the pics they post on such sites are even worse...I believe that they are doing such antics for attention!
