What do YOU think happened to D.B. Cooper?

Do you think he is still alive? Did his parachute open, and he got away with the $200,000 in ransom money, or is he part of the forest in SW Washington state? All that was ever found of the money was $5,800 in l980. No parachutes.

It was Nov 24, 1971 when he disappeared

If you would like to look for him, you can play amateur sleuth at

http://www.fbi.gov/

Update:

Look closely at your neighbors. Is he living next door to you in Seattle?

Or, is he on Y/As somewhere, with us?

Update 2:

It was in somebody's column in yesterday's paper, Nick. The story brought it back and wondered what anybody else thought.

What, are you FBI or something? Hm?

I go along with the theory that he was an experienced jumper and he landed near his intended jump zone. He planted part of the money to throw searchers off his trail and he's been living happily ever after. If it had been me I'd have been so excited I'd have grabbed the money and forgotten the chute.

He is dead as a door nail. No way that he would have survived without prior preparations. He took the ultimate gamble and lost.

    Here's the scheme.

Everybody knew Cooper jumped off the airplane with the money. He failed. But where is the money. Somebody found it knowing that there was money out there. They threw away $5800 to throw the law off and hoped for the best. Sort of like lets make believe that Cooper is still alive, but I keep the money. Cooper's body could have been intentionally buried to keep the "Cooper is alive option" alive. No body, so who can declare him dead? Meanwhile, someone having a few extra hundred grand just smartly spent it but not on a while spending spree.

I suspect Rhonda's probably correct, but I like to think he's on some island somewhere taking in the sun.

Edit: I wish the guy the best. If I stumbled across him somewhere I'd love to sit down with him and buy him a cup of java. But sleuthing for the FBI doesn't appeal to me.

We know what happened to DB Cooper. His real name was Richard McCoy. He tried the same thing again four months after the first time and got caught. He was killed in a shootout with the FBI after he escaped from prison in 1974.

One thing for certain - he'd be close to 80 now IF he had survived. Another thing...$200 K was a lot of money THEN, but unless he did some really clever investing in building that nest egg it wouldn't have lasted to this day....

The only problem is, if he did indeed survive and get away....

All of the bills were marked, and apparently none of them got into circulation. Or they would have been spotted right off?

Tis a mystery, that's for sure. Could he have gone to Canada??

Just my think on the ol boy--I think he was a trained smoke jumper, went out of the plane in fine fettle, used a 'name' he thought up, left a bit of the cash behind for seed and is living happily ever after in the spot of his choice.

Sitting serenely on the top of a 300 hundred foot tree not far from where he jumped. COD "rude, rectal impalement". How's that for a CSI plot? Nobody ever looks up. RScott

I think he died,I don't know if he was smart enough to fake his death. If he did, more power to him, maybe he and Amelia Earheart are having a tete to tete at some bistro in a foreign place and living on the money.

I think he probably died. However he would have to have a new identity. If he is still alive, the leftover money would not have lasted that long.
