How do I boot up my computer using my XP disk?

I'm trying to boot up my computer using my XP disc but I can't figure out how to get it off a normal boot up and over to the disc. Everytime I try to use the disc after boot-up it tells me my copy is older than the one in my computer (it's the same disc) and that in order to install I have to "Boot up" the computer using the disc. Any ideas anyone? thanx.

Update:

How do I boot from the "C" drive?

Update 2:

I'm trying to clean out my computer of viruses and other such, I've saved important stuff to floppies so I just need to replace XP on my computer, it's the same disk that's on there.

Put the disk in, restart your computer, and go to boot order (you have to push F2 or some other F key; it varies from computer to computer), assign to boot from the CD drive, and then boot from the CD drive

you failed to say if the computer will boot up on it's own, from the C drive.

I have no way to even try to help without all the facts.

from what little you offer.....I can only say.....if it will not boot on it's own,....reformat and start over.

otherwise, there is not information to help you.

OR just run windows off the XP disk and do a recovery, on the C drive.
