Separating work from personal life when I work from home.?

I've got my own little graphic design business which I really enjoy...but my number one job is caring for my little baby girl, and that doesn't let me have much of a set schedule for work - I just squeeze it in when I can.

So I'm having a hard time switching on and off from "work mode"

Any good ideas to help?

You'll have to do it when she is napping or when someone else is there to watch her. It's very difficult to work from home, as you might have discovered. When you get the chance, you need to go into a seperate, quiet room. (no toys, no TV, etc.). You might also consider hiring a babysitter on a regular basis so you can get the work you need done, done.

You need to decide your hours--you cannot just work when the baby is sleeping. If you can get away with the 3 hours/day, then do it.

However, I would hire a sitter to come in and be with your daughter while you work from 9-1 or something like that.

You need to WORK from home, not have a hobby from home. If you are going to make this work, you NEED a schedule. It's going to be the easiest way to switch from MOM to BUSINESS WOMAN.

You'll also be able to phone your clients easier. A client doesn't want to hear, "Yes we can do that. <screaming from the bedroom when your daughter wakes up> Do you mind if I call you back soon?" Clients who work 8-5 need to be contacted between 8-5.

Also, set up an office in a different area of the house. If your computer is in the living room, you don't be able to work without distraction.
