Ok, is the percent increase from 25 to 100 the same as the percent decrease from 100 to 25? PLEASE HELP!?

It is indeed the same percentage. 25 to 100 is a 400% increase (100 is 4 times as big as 25). 100 to 25 is a 400% decrease (25 is 4 times as small as 100)

No, the percentage increase is never the same as the percentage decrease.

How could it be? 100 is 75 more than 25, or a 300% increase, but what percent of 100 is 25? Only 25%, right? So 25 is just a 75% decrease from 100. You're taking a percentage of a completely different number.

Assuming that 25 and 100 represent numbers and not percentages:

first (calculating percent increase):

original = 25

new = 100

change = absolute(new - original) = absolute(100 - 25) = 75

percent change = (change/original) * 100 = (75/25) * 100 = 300

second (calculating percent decrease):

original = 100

new = 25

change = absolute(new - original) = absolute(25 - 100) = 75

percent change = (change/original) * 100 = (75/100) * 100 = 75

So no, the percent increase is not same as percent decrease.

i would say no, because it is much easier to go from a 100 percent to 25 decrease. lets say you were playing basketball. if you shoot the ball 4 times and you make all 4, thats 100 percent. if you miss the next 12 shots, you get 4 shots made out of 16 (4/16 or 25%). now lets say you play the next day, and you shoot once, and u make it to get 100% if u miss the next one, u have 1 out of 2, or 50 percent. now if you make the next 98 shots, you will have 99 shots out of 100, which is 99%, not even 100 percent.. so i would say the increase from 25 to 100 is much different than 100 to 25.
