Is this a gang?

My neice is hanging with some kids who I thought were innocent until I found out one of the boys dad and mom have been arrested previously and in prison.

I went on one kids myspace and found him with DBA all over his myspace and found pics of him with a red bandanna and messages from alot of other that have DBA in thier names and represent, and the bandanna s and flashing signs... NOT sure of it is 8th graders acting like fools or stupid little group of kids who are acting stupid... Or an actual gang group. I googled and found nothing.. Please help!

adding she is 13, I asked her and she said NO! defessivley. We live in a very good area... and go to one of the best jr highs in the city... I am leaning torwards them being stupid, but still am worried

I added the parentls thing because I do know the parents. I had both of them in prison and they ARE both Bad NEWS! I too have 1/2 my family has been in jail,prison, or should have... Was added to just add to the concern... I currently work in a jail and know not all ppl there are bad even though they ARE there... Sometimes ppl make bad mistakes...

and the child of the prison parents, just got expelled from school and the school system

    Call the local gang unit (police department). They would be able to tell you.

    I have seen some kids post dumb things on their myspace just to look "cool". Check into it though. You don't want her getting involved with the wrong people at such a young age. Good luck and God bless.

    Just because a kids parents are in jail/have been arrested means that their kids are bad. I have a friend whos father has been in and out of jail his whole life...YET he graduated last June, and has a FULL scholarship to any college he wants to go for being a honor student.

    You REALLY need to rethink that.

    As for that myspace....

    There ARE kids those ages in gangs. I never heard of DBA before. It might just be a stupid group thing thats going around your area. Id still be careful thou because the color red sometimes represents for the gang 'bloodz'.

    DBA could be a gang, but definitely not tied to Bloods or Crips.

    Most likely small, local, or a myspace thing.

    Ask your kid. It's probably just joking around but it might be a gang. It's better to be safe than sorry.

    I'm in 8th grade and have friends who made a "social club" and got bandanas and stuff but I live in a really friendly neighborhood with no gangs and stuff so people know it's not a gang.

    But....if you live in one of those type of neighborhoods with gangs I would DEFINITELY ask him and maybe contact the police if you get really worried.
