Our original nickname has been gunners. By way of mickey taking some while ago now, an opponent said 'more like gooners, than gunners'. We thought that so funny, we adopted it instead.

The Gooners were a nickname that Tottenham supporters gave us, and it stuck

it's an insult, whcih comes from the word goon.

You're all SUCH IDIOTS. And other fans called you gooners cos they hated you.

I can't believe you and the club have adopted the word gooner.

I really couldn't stop laughing at the Arsenal away game when your announcer said "join the gooner club" or something.

I'm a Spurs fan btw and we gave you that nickname!

In my house (courtesy of the Wife who is a Watford fan) it's normally pronounced Dirty Gooners or Gooner Scum. Something to do with a FA Cup final...

It's just one of those things....

Source(s): p.s. I used to follow Arsenal when I was younger (and Newcastle were in the 2nd Division). I've seen the light now....
