Problem with new SDRAM?

I have an old HP 6700/XE700 running Windows 98SE. It has 667mhz. I want to upgrade to Windows XP, so I need to upgrade the RAM from 64mb to at least 256mb. I got two 128mb SDRAM cards from Kbyte Memory, and after removing the 64mb RAM card from the motherboard, I attached one of the 128mb cards. It fit snugly and "snapped" into place with both hooks hooking into place.

I turned it on, and everything was fine. In a boot-up screen displaying the properties of the computer, it showed that it utilized the 128mb SDRAM card. The bootup was exactly the same, until it got into the log in screen, where it goes blue and says there is a exception OD error. This screen will not go away, so I have to restart the computer.

The card works, but the computer wont load the log in screen.

Any advice helps.

Thanks

The ram might not be compatible with your motherboard or its just a bad stick of ram it happens.i would go to www.hp.com and go to support tab and type in the model # of your computer it will have a specs list and it will tell you what motherboard it uses and what ram is compatible with it.if it dosnt just get the name of the motherboard it uses and search it on the net.

The RAM may not be compatible with such an old motherboard. I suggest a whole new computer altogether. You could get something basic with Windows XP and 512Mb RAM for $100 at Circuit City.
