how to change a battery on a 306 diesel car.?

It is easier to charge the battery using some jump leads and leaving the battery in the car. If you have already tried this all you need is an 8" adjustable spanner or suitable sized socket set.(14mm I think).

Adjustables are the last resort, or close to it. Use the right tool for the right job - or collect your hat and spurs and play with the other cowboys.

Any simple tool kit will suffice, ensure you grease the terminals with vaseline/petroleum jelly after fitting the battery - make sure the top of the battery is dry and any breathers are attatched.

Disconnect the earth first and on assembly connect the earth last.

Make sure the terminals are tight and well fitted.

OK what you need is an 11mm spanner to loosen the terminals. I think its a 10mm spanner or better still a socket with a long extension to loosen the battery retaining clamp on the side of the battery.

All it needs is a couple of spanners, but to be honest, I'd go to a fast-fit centre of some sort. They'll do it while you wait and they'll dispose of your old one safely too. (A car battery's full of sulphuric acid by the way!)
