How can I boot up my computer from the CD-rom drive?

I need to clean out my computer but everytime I try and run my XP disc it tells me it's older than what I have (It's the same disc) and in order to put in the new XP I have to boot my computer from the CD. Help!

you probally have gotten an update from windows that made yours a sp4. so basically on your computer you have a higher serbvice pack than the service pack on the disk.

Go into the BIOS setup (by pressing F1 or Del or whatever it says during startup) and look for a setting called "boot device priority". Set it to boot from the CD-ROM drive before it boots from the hard drive.

If your computer does not support booting from the CD-ROM you can use a boot disk (with a CD-ROM driver on it such as mscdex) and run "D:\i396\winnt" (provided that D is your CD-ROM drive). This will start Windows XP setup without requiring you to boot from CD.

Hit delete or f8 key when boot up.
