XBOX 360 - Red Rings Of Death?

OK, so my little brother got an XBOX 360 a couple months (2 or 3) after it was released. When we bought it, GameStop also reccomended getting a NYKO Intercooler (which we found out later, heats it up). A couple months later (again, 2 or 3) it got the Red Rings Of Death; back then we couldn't afford the warranty so we got stuck with it. So, now, 3 months ago he got the Halo 3 Edition XBOX 360; it just got the Red Rings Of Death too. So after $800 and 2 XBOX 360s, he's not getting another one. We're getting our money back and trading in every XBOX game; of course, he wants to get something else, I have a Wii, and sent my PS3 to repair (it broke too); I mean, 2 years saving up to get this stuff, and it breaks? What should he get?

Xbox has a warranty against the red ring of death. You can actually send it in (within 3 years) and they will replace it for free.

Thats true, dont buy it because the fact is that it uses more energy that causes overheating as a result of RRD, but, the fact is that you supposed to play about 4 hours daily maximum, then, you will not have any problems, but, if you let the 360 ON trought the night and the next night and so on, of course its busted,, also, place your xbox 360 in a open space, and put something in the back of the 360 like a normal cooller,,,,,

The PS3 has a good colling siistem almost as good as tthe elite 360 with falcon chip, the ps3 is worse in graaphics and gaming online, but, if hes an extream gamer, get him a ps3 and tell him to be carefull wit it..........................................

xbox 360 is better in gaming 4 a couple of hours, while the ps3.... its cooll 4ever.......................... its your choise, and also, always buy at least 3 year wuarranty 4 both consoles, because alot of ps3s and 360s are already busted right out the box

GET HIM PS3 if hes LONG TIME PLAYIng gamer, and if he want big fun, 360 elite with falcon chip...

  • Those Red Rings Of Death suck. If you want to get another Xbox 360 do it. I've had mine since it came out and it hasn't broken yet. The trick is don't leave it on all night and have it laying on it's side most of the time. There isn't really anything else to get besides an Xbox 360, Wii, or PS3. So yeah.

Get a ps3, the lighting is better and the contrast works better, it also has a better frame rate, which makes it easier to move a round and, you guessed it, easier to see things. Do not fork out another $400 on a xbox, when you add it up (xbox live, hd player, different xbox versions etc.) it costs more than ps3. I have had no problems whatsoever with a ps3 ever.

Two things you can do if you get the rings of death:

    1. My friend has had this, he sent it off to Microsoft, and it cost £50 to repair.

    2. Another friend had it, and apparently he turned it on and off 20 times, which fixed it, so try either one.

If you make a fuss, if its under warranty, you can get it fixed for free

they have a three year xbox warrent

all you have to do is register it and send it in to microsoft, not gamestop, and they should fix it

remember only three lighting up is the actual ring of death if it is 4 than the AV cable is plugged in wrong, and 1 ring is also not bad (but i forget what it is for)

if you buy it at costco they will give you a full refund even if there is a price drop

i bought mine for 500 bucks, it broke in a year, the price dropped, they gave me store credit i bought the same kind for 400 bucks and had 60 bucks back, because of tax and what not

I always have swore on keeping my 64 system because through thick and thin there are no moving parts inside. Of course, I repair electronics for a living so I would fancy this information more than anyone else would. Good Luck!

Microsoft extended the warranty of any xbox with the red ring of death by 3 years, no matter where you bought it. You just need to contact the Microsoft customer service, tell them what happened, and they will send you a new one. It happened to me, and I got mine fixed in 3 weeks. not bad... and cheaper... maybe get'em a psp or something....

Man you just ooze bad luck.

Get him a DS and pocket the rest of the cash for your troubles. For as much as I like my consoles I play my DS far more.
