What happened to High Resolution Laptops? Is anyone else upset about this?

I've been searching for a new laptop for 6 months now. I've never been more anxious to hand a vendor $1,000 - but nobody seems to want to put in a decent graphics card anymore. I can't be the only one who can't work on 1280X800 resolution

Must not be looking in the right place - lots of Dell laptops have high resolution screens available but not by default. For instance, the 15" Inspiron 1520 has an available 1440x900 or 1680x1050 screen, and the 17" Inspirons and XPSs have available 1920x1200 screens (the resolution of their 24" widescreen LCD).

Laptops have small screens and weak graphic processors for a reason - they're portable. It would hurt battery life to have a 512mb Nvidia chip in a laptop, and it would be inconvenient to carry around a laptop with a 24-inch screen.

The only laptops that will have great graphics and a large screen would be called "desktop replacement laptops". They are very powerful machines, and usually would come with two battery compartments to stay on longer. Of course, they cost more than $1000.

well most decent laptops cost more then $1000. You can get laptops with a good gpu and a hi-res screen but it will cost more then that.
