Do you select a best answer when you ask a question?

Okay like so many other people here I am addicted to YA. I have noticed recently that a lot of times the best answer on the questions I respond to are selected by the voters.

Why do people do this? Letting the voters decide means that people who really gave the best answer may not get chosen.

Not to mention you loose 5 points when you ask a question and you get 3 of them back when you select a best answer.

I posted this in the LGBT section because that is where I post most of my answers that get passed off to the voters to decide

I always select a best answer... not for the points as much as because I only ask about things I'm really curious about and want to thank those that took the time to provide a good answer.

But I know what you mean.

I pick best answer every time I ask a question. Not only do you get 3 points back, but you get the choose the person who you think gave the best answer. Sometimes the voters get it all wrong. I hate when people just let it go to vote, that's so lazy. Plus most of time, people just vote for their own answer (guilty as charged), so I think the question asker should choose best answer. If people take the time to answer their question, the least they can do is pick a best answer!

  • It is up to the asker, but if you want a question to be put to a vote you should do so before the automatic Yahoo! deadline so it will be towards the top of voting and more likely to get a large number of votes. You also regain the 3 points when a best answer is chosen by voters as well as yourself. I usually select a best answer, which is often difficult to do since there are several very good answers.

Just because a poster decides to let the question go to the public vote doesn't mean they haven't read you're answer or taken it into consideration.

Don't take it personal, some people may not have found the answer they where looking for, or couldn't be bothered to choose a best answer.

Either way, don't take this site too serious and carry on answering to the best of you're ability and think of it as a bonus if you get picked.

I always to respond when I ask a question. I don't understand why people ask questions and don't respond. Perhaps they don't like any of the answers. I now find that I don't mind if the voters do, because at least they read the questions before they vote.

Well I haven't asked very many question at all but the times that I have I choose to pick the best answer! I think that if I asked a question the least that I can do is pick somone to give the points to I mean they did take the time to answer my question!

I always wait a suitable number of days after asking any question, then I go in, read ALL the responses, and pick the one I like the best. And I always write a reason why I picked that answer.

I usually do. Some people view all of the answers given and are still not sure. By letting people vote for a best answer, it is a confirmation of what the real best answer is based on vote

Yes I do, but only after I read the question then all of the answers given! Then I pick the one that seams to be the best one!

Yeah,it's a little annoying, but at the same time when you get chosen by voters,it's kinda nice to see that more then one person agreed that your answer was the best.

Source(s): P.S I always do choose best answer, for the same reason as the others mentioned...to thank that person.
