do you have to buy songs from itunes to get the album artwork?

nope,all you do is go to advanced and click get album artwork. this only works if: 1. the song is available for sale on iTunes. 2. if the artist's name and album are spelt correctly. if the song you want the album art for isn't on itunes or you can't get the album art off of iTunes, then your other option would be to find the artwork off of the internet and drag and drop the image into the song's (get info) section under artwork.

If you dont buy the songs on itunes, then just right click the song(s) you want the album artwork you want it to appear on and go to get info and under artwork (I am pretty sure it says that) just open the album artwork and add it.

You have to download a picture of the album art to open it on itunes. Just google image search the album name and choose one and save it to your computer.

No, it just automatically does that for purchased songs. If you have CDs on there, you can right click each song for that album and click "get album artwork". Or you can copy and paste the artwork into the area that says "drag album artwork here".

Eiether way, you have to do it individually for each song. I have a nano so it may be different for you but we all use the same iTunes, so it may be the same.

if right clicking and selecting "get album artwork" doesnt work, you can right click and select "get info" and there you can upload a pic of the artwork yourself. Just besure to select all of the songs on the album when you do that, or else only the selected song you right clicked on will get the art work. (you can do this by left clicking on the first track of the album, press and hold shift, and then click on the last track. then click get info and upload the artwork.)
