How do I open a bank account? I'm only 17 y/o? Can you pls. tell me what the prerequisites/ requirements are?
Like, I get the whole idea that I have to be of legal age to open a bank account myself. However, what do I need to have in my hands when I get to the bank and ask them to open an account for me? Yes, I'll open it when I'm 18, I just want to be ready.
Ex: SSN, id, money?
I will be 18 in 5 months and I'm not interested in having my parents open one for me. Thank you very much.
In addition to that. Can I open my own credit card/ checking account? Or is that given already when I open a bank account? Please give me details. I don't mind if the explanation is really long just as long as it helps!
Iam2inthis: I asked here so that I won't have to GO to the bank thank you very much. Maybe you should walk into a bank so that you can answer my question correctly.

when you turn 18 take yourself your picture id and proof of ssn plus money to the bank -- yes you are now a legal age so you can open up a credit/debit card at the same time!!!

I needed my id, i'm pretty sure they just needed myssnumber not my card. i did need money. check the bank website to see how much you will need to deposit.
you can open either or both accounts when you go in
(checking and savings) usually checking has no min bal (but does have a min dep. to open i think) and savings does mave a min bal, but you get interest on your money in there. you get a atm card with a savings, but you can only use it at the atm. and you get a check/debit card with a checking one.
