Failure to appear? You are the winner of an all expenses paid vacation in the crow bar hotel. As a part of your deluxe accommodations, you will get to wear your own personal number on the back of your jumpsuit, and you will get to meet and stay with the infamous Bubba - king of the shower stall.
The good news is that it will probably not be a really long time, but you should become intimately familiar with the workings of a county correctional facility.
Oh, and by the way, CONGRATULATIONS!

Depends on where you live. I doubt you will get any jail time if you do it will be 30-90 days, 2-3 years probation, a hefty fine, a severe verbal reprimand from the judge, a court order preventing you to go back to the store, maybe communtiy service.

im not sure, but just go. the penalty for shoplifting will be much less than shoplifting and failutre to appear.

The chance to show em they cannot scare or dominate you. If your innocent, heck take it and smile. If your guilty take it and learn. But it is about you not them. We need a justice system that is for exactly that, justice. What we have is a system bent in corruption and money is the key. Not all are corrupt, but enough are to make it unfair.

What is simply a matter of community service will be upgraded. At the very least it will be on your record as having not shown up, (i.e. warant). DO NOT SKIP!!!! It will follow you and it just isnt worth it. Dont make ANOTHER decision you will regret.

Contempt of court for not appearing. Less sympathy from the judge when you are sentenced for shoplifting.

it all depends on the judge, your criminal record, and the state you live in.
