At high school what agriculture topics did you enjoy?

Hi I'm an Agriculture/Science Teacher at my local High School and am interested in developing a new topic for my students - but I'm out of ideas and I am hoping somebody can help me.

I enjoyed soil judging, we started a soil judging team and competed. Also animal judging we studied beef calf, swine, and sheep judging. This was individual competition in conjunction with the county fair. I was on the parliamentary procedure team that won the State FFA championship. We all enjoyed that. I don't know what you are currently doing, so none of this may be new to you. Things that might be new these days that would probably be interesting might be studying organic farming and/or permaculture.

Oh, by the way, if you are teaching High School Agriculture why do you call yourself unemployed graduate?

  • I went to an agricultural high school and enjoyed most of my classes. My favorites were" Field and Forage Crops (exactly what it sounds like), Dairy Management, Livestock Management, Animal Nutrition and Animal Anatomy and Physiology. I also took a dog grooming class and various classes related to pet shop management. My major was Farm Management.

Some kind of small scale project involving plants might be a good idea. Maybe something on the small scale with aquaculture. Will the school allow you to keep an animal there? That would be a good project for students. Maybe they could design a feed program with some kind of goal in mind and adjust it to meet that goal. You could also experiment with different feed and supplements. For instance, if you had a beef steer you could set a goal for average daily gain. Good Luck.

I enjoyed Animal science. Learning about nutritional requirements for different livestock. I also really enjoyed ag shop. We chose projects to build relating to ag. I built a set of stock racks for a pickup and rebuilt a feedwagon.

I'm in my first year of ag now and my favorite thing has really been just learning about FFA as a whole, the creed, motto, etc.

And I cant wait to get to the animal sciences too.

    Your diet come from soil

your note book come from soil

your cars' tyre come from soil

    and the list continue ..
