Do you believe that somebody as old as McCain can sustain the rigors of the Presidency?

Reagan was 69 when he assumed the Presidency, McCain would be 72 if he won.

I would have to say policies and personal abilities make a lot more difference to how well you perform.

There are also plenty of factors other than age that could reduce someones ability to cope.

Well, I wondered that too, but it was brought to my attention that his Mom is 95. But even knowing that, it still concerns me when I consider voting for him. That's why I think I might like him to pick Romney as vice pres running mate, if it comes to that.

I did notice that he was quite quick and sharp in the debate last night. Also, my Dad is 86 and is still quite capable mentally. Not physically, but when he was 72, he was much more strong physically.

What rigors? Any rigors are self-imposed. There are many presidents over 80 worldwide. Ours just run footraces for the photo-ops.

I believe that if you can sustain what McCain sustained in Vietnam as a POW ... he sure has hell can handle a presidency wouldn't you say? I wish to be as strong as he is when i 'll turn 72.

You know what? I will watch closely to see who his choice for a vice-president will be but, that aside, I think that age is a state of mind. His mind is sharper than most 20 yr olds and, holds more wisdom. I think that, if he can withstand campaigning, the presidency will be a no brainer for him.

You know what, I would not want to go up against him.I think he would and could be a great president. And I think he knows first hand the perils of war.and I believe he could deal great in all area. also he gets a lot done in congress. So I yes for the white house for him.

72 is the new 62. He seems to be in excellent health and I believe he would be able to effectively carry out the duties of the office

  • age has nothing to do with wether or not someone can deal with the rigors of anything. I over the summer saw a man who was 80 do a 115k race and come back the next day it was a non stop race and he made it he wasnt in first place but he was able to do it and that is realy kool

Source(s): it was a bike race

I agree with you. I've know a lot of people who were fine while in their early 70's but got suddenly very ill and never fully recovered. Why take that chance with the Presidency?
