Is there any difference between generic and name-brand contact solution?

The generic contact solution is less than half the price of the name-brand solution... but at the same time I wouldn't want to risk the health of my eyes just to save a few dollars?

It really depends on the actual brand you are talking about. Contact lens solutions do vary considerably and depending on the contacts better results may be obtained with different brands. Optometrists will often even 'prescribe' contact lens solutions to patients (even though they can get whatever they want) because different preservative may affect people in a different way.

Best option: talk to your optometrist...they know your eyes and your contacts it may be fine to switch to this other solution.

it really doesn't matter. Some people just prefer name brand over generic, because of moisture. I use a generic brand, and my contacts are fine. I see no difference in the name brand or generic brand when i use different solutions. Nothing extreme will happen to your eyes. Years ago, a bunch of solutions were recalled from causing an infection(these brands were both generic AND name brand). This ingredient isn't allowed in any solution at all. All company's (name brand or generic) do many many tests to prevent this from happening again. The worst that could ever happen may be an irritation, but this would be from how your eyes react, not from the actual product.

Yes, there is a difference between generic and name brand solutions. Before optometry school, I used to use any solution, but now I know better. The truth is that you don't really know what is in the generic solutions. There may be preservatives in the generics that may irritate your eyes. I would stick to the name brand solutions and try to stay with 1 brand.
