**NETWORKING HELP PLz!!**?
Hi, I have been given a scenrio and am stuck.
how would you connect two buildings together into a network. (The total distance between the buildings is 1KM)
Each building has several floors and computers. I would ideally like the workers to be able to share printers, scanners, files etc.
Could you perhaps suggest a possible way to connect the two buildings together.
Many Thanks
i seriously dont have a clue. i wouldnt be asking otherwise. events hints would be nice to get me on track

before we do your homework for you why dont you tell us what you have come up with and then we will tell you what is feasible. This is a very basic problem and you should be able to find solutions very easily.
OK first of all you are just going to need standard cat5 cable to run to all of your pc's and printers. This will then connect up to a router. If your cable runs are longer then 300 feet you will need to put a repeater in the loop or run fiber. Both building will be wired the same. TO connnect the buildings you could run fiber. However you are probably going to want to contact a phone company and run a T1 or fractional T1 line across there wire to connect your buildings. Hope this helps. If you need additional resources try googling Star topology, network wiring limitation and check out the Cisco CCNA website. Good luck.

No $ or details given, so something like a millimeter wave radio, microwave radio, or wireless bridge would link the two sites. Since it sounds like homework, the basics would be:
From wireless linking device into a router and then into a switch, from that switch PCs and servers connect. Each floor could have a switch that is connected via fiber to main switch thereby connecting all floors in the building. Swap out the microwave link with a T1, DSL, Frame Relay, etc. link for non line of sight between buildings.

seek the web pages, and purchase Networking for Dummies. it may look stupid, even though it has a number of the main distinctive concepts I quite have ever seen in one place, inclusive of a excellent section on netmasks. There are issues in there that are lacking from a number of the main technical books. we would take a month to jot down sufficient to be sensible, yet might probably in uncomplicated terms confuse you.
