it is definitely Nate McMillan... the Blazers went from a 50 loss team last year to coming in with a bad start and then winning 13 in a row... now the sit atop their division.. and they are the youngest team in the league.. he has done a lot with that team and deserves it hands down.. Sure Doc Rivers has taken a team with 3 All Stars and had them play defense... Sure Byron Scott has the Hornets playing well but without Chris Paul, that would not be happening... Sure Phil Jackson has taken the Lakers from barely making the playoffs to being a force to be recognized. But would that be true without Kobe who some argue to be the best basketball player ever.. Nate McMillan has taken a team of all young guys, and turned this team into a miracle. This team has the whole city and some of the nation believing in this team and it starts with his amazing coaching

Avery Johnson? cmon, Dallas has the most number of assistant coaches. Phoenix coach, Mike D'Antoni should win this. He made you think Steve Nash deserve the MVP, despite being atrocious in the defensive end. He lost Amare for nearly a full season, and still get the same results while proving the critics wrong at the same time.

First and foremost, my candidate to win the award – and one that actually stands a legitimate chance of winning – is in the “field” category.

Toronto’s Sam Mitchell has done an absolutely marvelous job getting his young Raptors team to believe and overachieve. The Raptors look like they will win the Atlantic division, an afterthought when the regular season began.

Whether or not Mitchell wins or not, remains up for debate, but there isn’t a coach in the league who has done more with less, than Mitchell.

Mitchell will almost assuredly lose many votes to Sloan who is a beloved figure throughout the league – and that fact is what could cost him the award, although he is the most deserving candidate.

Again, bettors should be mindful of the fact that Sloan will garner his share of votes and that Van Gundy will nab his share of votes as well, but my vote goes to ...

    SAM MITCHELL.

It's too early to say but here are the front-runners in alphabetical order:

    1) Phil Jackson: Who expected the Lakers to be the #1 seed in the West right now and barring Bynum's injury it would have been scary.

    2) Eddie Jordan (Wizards): The Wizards (especially Caron Butler) is balling without Gilbert- you would have thought they would have tanked.

    3) Nate McMillan: You gotta give the Blazers props especially when their season started with last year's #1 draft going down in injury.

    4) Byron Scott: The Hornets are for real and dangerous in the playoffs.

I'd probably give it to Nate or Phil.

Jerry Sloan has deserved Coach of the Year for many years now... still hasn't received one. But I agree that you have to consider the Blazers' coaching staff first.

    I think there's two extremes.

it's either Isaiah Thomas - because even though he s*cks, the players still have respect and faith in him.

    or

Phil Jackson - if ever the Laker Power gets back and wins 50+ games. No doubt, the Lakers are earning this year's awards.

    Look :

Most Improved Player - Andrew Bynum

Most Valuable Player - Kobe Bryant

Coach of the year - Phil Jackson

    Sportsmanship award - Luke Walton..

Defensive Player of the Year - Kobe Bryant

    lol... there you go...
