It really depends on how you want to make calls and whether you’re calling other Skype users, landlines or mobiles. If you have a broadband connection and a touch tone phone and want to make unlimited calls to other landlines and mobiles, whether in the UK or abroad, Vonage would fit the bill. This is all for a fixed monthly fee. You can find out more at www.vonage.co.uk. And don’t forget that Vonage to Vonage calls are free whichever country you are in.

Skype is potentially both. Skype is simple to use, and it somewhat "revolutionized" simple VoIP as we know it today. Because of this Skype has many products developed for it, is often referred to when talking about a generic VoIP product and is easy to find information about. However Skype is closed source, uses proprietary methods to communicate and is less universal than say Google Talk. In the sense of portability and community driven bug fixes, this may be a bad thing. Open Source products that do similar things that Skype offers are often less buggy, see faster development, implement new features faster and are easier to implement into a variety of needs and applications.

It is a good messenger application, same as yahoo, msn, paltalk and any other messenger. In my opinion, sykpe is more secure than other messenger. It gives you better transmission for live chatting through microphone and also video conferencing. Why don't you try to use it and experience it yourself. Good Luck!

I like it, I use it to host an online radio broadcast, which is live, and very cheap.
