cleaning a ski condo?
At a school fund-raising auction, we were the winning bidders on a "ski weekend" at a condo owned by a family whose children attend the school. We are taking the ski trip this weekend, and now I am wondering if I am obligated to clean the condo before we leave? Of course, if the condo were loaned to us by a family member or friend, I would leave it spotless and wash all the linens and towels. However, we paid a rather hefty price for the condo as the winning bidders. That money went to the school, and the family that owns the condo donated the use of it. If we don't wash all the linens and towels they will need to have their cleaning service do it. I know this probably sounds like a very silly question, but I am suddenly feeling awkward and uncertain about what to do. We of course will leave it tidy, but I'd rather not have to spend the time washing. I also want to do the right thing. Any thoughts? Thank you!

I say don't leave it filthy (like a frat party just ran through it), but no need to deep clean. I'm sure they have a cleaning service and would use it whether you cleaned or not. As a homeowner, if I had guests stay in my home for the weekend like that, I would have a cleaning service come even if they left it neat and clean.

well it's should have been discussed beforehand.
If you were a paid renter in their condo would you be charged a cleaning fee?
do they they rent this condo out on a regular basis?
why don't you ask the owners what they suggest?
are they're going to pay a cleaning service to come behind you no matter how clean you leave it.
if they don't usually rent it out, I say you should leave it the way it was when you arrived.
if you paid more money than you could choke a horse with
leave the linens, someone else will get paid to do them.

I would clean the condo including the sheets and towels. The owner donated the condo to make money for the school, why should they have to pay the cleaning service?? If they rec'd the money for the rental it would be different. I would bring my own linens and towels.....I don't feel comfortable sleeping on others linens. I remake the bed with their linens when I leave and take my linens home to wash.

They are going to wash the towels and linens anyway and they will wipe down furniture, basins, sinks, toilet, tubs, hard floors and vacuum carpets.
Just don't leave trash can full, crumbs all over the place clean up spills and wipe stove top and oven.
Leave the refrigerator spotless!

Yes, you do need to clean the condo before you leave, ESPECIALLY if it belongs to a family of someone at your school. It is their condo and you should respect it and leave it as it was when you walked in. We have a cabin in Lake Tahoe, CA and it belongs to my family for use. Whoever uses it is expected to clean it and do the laundry and replenish all used beds with clean sheets.. and wash any towels we used. It needs to be in ready-use condition for the next person who goes up there for the weekend. Make sense? I also have friends with cabins.. it's always the same in their, as well. Best Wishes!

My family did virtually the same thing this last summer - we "won" a long weekend at a beach house owned by a couple who were members of the church doing a fundraiser.
The thing to remember is that this is their home. Treat it as you would anyone's home that you were a guest in. It would be a most kind gesture to wash the linens.
We left the beach house spotless, and as a result, the couple said we could come back anytime we like, or we could use their other vacation property in the Virgin Islands! You never know what good karma will come to you when you do good things.

Obviously the family loaned the condo to raise money for the school. It was a kind thing for them to do and it would be kind in return to keave it like you found it to show your appreciation. It's a bummer to have to wash linens and so forth but it will be appreciated.

I wouldn't go so far as to wash the linens...but I would either leave the room as I found it (all beds made, etc) or take off all of the linens and put them, neatly in the hamper so that the home owner won't have to do it.
I would imagine if you're paying such a hefty price, it would be on par with staying at a hotel...I would look at it that way. Just leave it neat
