Hotel in NYC Near Central Park?

I have a female friend visiting NYC next week end and is looking for a cheap, clean, safe hotel near Central Park. Any suggestions?

    Try The Empire Hotel on 63rd. Street. It was just renovated so it might not be cheap anymore,

    Hotel Olcott, on 72 Street might be just the thing though.
