how can I change a .jpg to .gif?

I am trying to change my .jpeg web graphics to .gif I tried to change them by opening them in paint and saving them as a .gif, but the quality is awful. Is there an easy program that will convert them and save the quality?

The key problem is jpeg is a lossy compression algorithm and the artifacts that it creates are not friendly to conversion to low color depths (or to lossless compression algorithms). The fact that paints color depth reduction sucks doesn't help either.

you need to get a decent image editor (sorry I can't really reccomend one, I use a very old version of paint shop pro myself), clean up the image, reduce to 256 color making sure you use an optimised palette (don't use the "websafe pallette, it made sense in the days of 256 color displays") and then save as a gif or better still a png.

If you have Adobe Photoshop you can save the original quality pictures as high quality .gif files and they should remain the same or similar quality.

Google this: convert jpeg to gif

Several choices, from downloading free programs to using an online convertor.
