Why do I have pain in my gums?

Overnight I have developed a nasty pain in my gums, just behind my two top front teath.

The gum feels hard and swollen and this pain is making it difficult for me to chew (I have a slight overbite)

I have been ill recently with Man Flu, and I have also developed a cold sore on my lower lip which I unconsiously lick to keep it moist as I cant use lipsyl until its gone. Could this be something to do with it?

Any help would be apreciated as it is really annoying!!!

Cheers

Update:

I do brush, but I dont floss.

It feels a bit better today, if its not ok after the weekend then I will book in to a dentist on monday :(
