Is 7 or below the normal ph range for soft water? Please share the source of your answer...Thank you...?
I believe the water in my apartment is no longer being softened as it is supposed to be. I checked the ph with a high quality ph tester and I am showing readings in the 7.6 range and above.Suds no longer last in the dish water our hair is like straw when washed laundry doesn't seem as clean and our skin seems very dry.

Soft water is where the water has low mineral content, especially calcium and magnesium ions. Some of the ions do affect the pH, but not all do. As such, pH isn't the best indicator of a water's "hardness". However, soft water does generally have pH below 6.5 while hard water is more of 8 and above. If you are concerned with your water being hard, I'd suggest an actual hard water tester to be sure.
