Let me tell you a little story....
You are on high alert, and every little thing is gunna set off the 'labor alarm'. Just know you are going to want to stay at home for as long as possible...as the hospital sucks.
My tummy would get rock hard, like you were saying, and everything would tighten...but it didn't hurt...until it was time. And sister, you'll know. When things start moving from uncomfortable to holy crap this hurts... you need to call your dr. Make sure you're timing your contractions. When they get between 5-7 minutes (or more than 6 an hour) and get stronger and longer... that's the sign things are movin' and groovin'. If you go in too early to the hospital, all they're gunna do is change you into a cold gown and have you walking laps around the ward until you progress. At home, you can watch a movie, still eat whatever you feel like, get a pedi...
Good luck hon! Sounds like you're in the 11th hour. Yay!!!

When I was 37 weeks along with my first pregnancy I went to the usual doctor appointment. I just mentioned that my whole belly was getting tight, and then it would not be tight any more. It is just like how you said. I told her that I kept thinking it was the baby moving. She told me that it was braxton hicks. She told me to look at it as that my body is "practicing" to have the baby. It shocked me to hear that, because the whole time (well for week 36, and 37) I thought it was the baby changing positions/ moving around.
It did that every so often until I gave birth. I gave birth at 40 weeks....... two days late.
Hope that that helps in a way.
Good luck with everything. : )

I never had Braxton Hicks contractions with either of my children.
Watch for your water to break or to at least you bloody show which is the mucous plug dislodging.
I would go to the hospital just to be on the safe side because if you have a precipitous labor (like I did) you might pass the point to get an epidural...and trust me, giving birth without it will hurt worse than you can possibly imagine.

It's contractions! Congratulations. My contractions were not painful for quite some time even while I was in labor. After my water broke I was laying in the hospital bed having contractions about every 3 minutes and couldn't feel them...then I started dialating and oh boy!
Wait until they are 3-5 minutes apart and then call your doctor!
Good luck, you will do great!

It is just like the other two women said, Braxton Hicks..... I had them alot with all 5 of my preg., with my last two though they started at 28 weeks... Your body is preparing for labor... Good luck and congrats on the baby!!!! ;)

It sounds like Braxton Hicks contractions, which are in a way "practice contractions" they don't hurt as much as the real thing and they don't really make you dialate like true contractions do. Now if they start coming more regularly and start to hurt more you may be experiencing real contractions.

Generally the rule is that if it is your whole belly then it is a "real" contraction. But if they aren't regular I wouldn't worry too much.
And if anyone tells you that it can't be labour because it doesn't hurt -just laugh at them.
