Until what age is American girl dolls for?

I guess my answer is different then what a lot of parents think of.

My question back is why is it so bad for a girl to still love a doll after she is 10? The love a girl or young woman has for a doll never has to go away.

A boy is allowed to have an xBox for a lifetime or until the next best thing comes around. A boy is allowed to grow into a man and still like his Hot Wheel cars. he is allowed to display them in cabinets crafted to protect and store them. Yet a girl is told to pack up or give away her dolls because she is "to old" for them.

My philosophy is different because I believe a girl can grow up and still appreciate the beauty, stories, and details that have been put into creating this popular doll line. My daughter received her first real AG doll in second grade. She slept with her and cuddled her. She totted her everywhere. Now at 11 my daughter still has her doll but it is different. She doesn't tow them all over with her except when she went on a trip to AGP. Now she appreciates the stories, accessories, and clothing. She has learned about what lives were like in different era's in time. She has learned what it means to be an American Girl in her own time.

So how old is to old for you or your friends to learn and appreciate these things? My opinion is NEVER. There is one big difference. A girl that plays with her dolls can grow into a collector that still plays with dolls. It is different but doesn't ever have to go away. The dolls can be beautifully displayed in her room, or later as an adult, in her home.

7 still seems a bit young. Maybe get her a Bitty twin or Bitty baby (the American Girl doll for younger girls) or a different doll brand like the Groovy Girls or a Cabbage Patch Kid. I would say maybe 9 or 10 is a good age for American Girl Dolls. They are about $100 now not including shipping or tax. The stories and the dolls are just more appropriate for older preteen girls. I would say wait and get her one when she's a little older.

American Girl dolls are good until you stop playing with dolls - - maybe around the end of grammar school.

I know some adults who collect some of the 'theme' American Girl dolls.

I would say until kids stop liking dolls. I was never into dolls at all, but my friends played with them until 6th grade (12 years old).

untill you quit liking dolls. Im 14 and i still love them. there so fun to collect. You are never too old for american girl dolls.

There is no age limit on loving dolls of any kind! I'm 51 and I don't plan on stopping any time soon!

There is no limit to what age! 8 year olds like them, 11 year olds, 13 year olds, and even 15-18 year olds and 20-60 year olds. They are great fun, im 12 i love them and im turning 13. I think as long as someone enjoys them, playing or collecting that there is no age limit.

You can like them for however long you want but they are not recommend for kids under 8.
