Why are cultures so different in the approach to dealing with ghosts?

I have a friend who is Mexican, he says you should never talk to ghosts, But being of Celtic descent I have no fear talking to ghosts. My friend is not the first Mexican I have met who thinks talking to ghosts is bad, why the difference in thought?

Every culture is different. Look at Native Americans and their embrace of spirit guides and their positive beliefs in general about different spirit beings. Some cultures embrace spirits while others fear them. Some people fear the unknown while others are intrigued by it. Look at at some of the old folk tales passed down in Latino culture like "La Llorona" the crying ghost. Some cultures scare their kids into behaving by telling scary stories.

Well, I am 100% Portuguese and my culture is anti everything! Because most Portuguese people are rigid catholic, they do not believe in ghosts or spirits because then they would have to believe in purgatory. It is commonly believed that if a ghost/spirit is left behind then thay have unfinished business! The only spirit catholics believe in is the Holy Spirit which is a part of the Holy Trinity.

I am 100% Portuguese and catholic, however, I don't necessarily agree with all aspects of my culture and religion. I am a pretty open individual, especially since I have had some spiritual experiences of my own. I hope that helps, I tried giving you the cliff notes version w/o going all holy on you!
