Can anxiety cause swallowing difficulties?
My husband is having a lot of problems due to the fact that he has a hard time swallowing. He has been on a liquid diet for a month, and has lost about 25 lbs.. He has been to several doctors/specialists, and they can't find anything. He has anxiety issues, and I was wondering if it could cause this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

if the anxiety is bad enough, it very well could be causing this. Try putting him in a relaxed environment

Most definately, i myself have the same problem from time to time. It got to the point where i could not go out and eat in a restaurant. My doctor just blew the issue away. To this day it takes me ages to eat a meal. See if you can arrange to get him some counselling. Anxiety can cause many physical symptoms, btw. Good luck

I can tell you that anxiety can cause all kinds of problems and should be treated. You husband needs to keep looking for a doctor to find out what is wrong with him. Having trouble swallowing can lead to having trouble breathing and losing 25lbs. in a month should be taken very seriously. He really needs to keep searching for a doctor that can tell him what is going on. I hope he finds out what the problem is and gets better soon.

Yes it can. My dad as severe anxiety and swallowing problems. He cannot go out to eat without a piece of food getting stuck in his throat and he has to leave.

If the anxiety level is high enough, yes it could. Like if he is basically having a permanent panic attack. If his anxiety level is that high, he needs some major treatment, soon. Sounds like he is having a nervous breakdown...a bad one.
