Why is my internet access so poor?
I got a new wireless modem/router a while ago and since installing it all my internet speed has been terrible.
I have a 2wire modem and tiscali broadband.
The broadband has been getting steadily worse over the past 6 months, but virtually dropped off completely when I put the new modem in.
Can anyone tell me how I can test where the problem is?
I suspect its with the modem, if it is can someone recommend a good brand for me to replace it with?
Cheers all

I think Linksys make the best wireless routers, this problem unfortunately could be a million things but I will try to help.
I am assuming the settings on the P.C. and router are correct as instructed by your ISP. First make sure that the connection reading on the wireless network (look on your taskbar - bottom right of the screen) reads good to very good, if it is lower than this then the P.C. will struggle to receive the information from the Wireless Router.
Have you tried the ethernet cable, and does it respond any faster than the wireless? If it does not then there is a problem with the communication from router to P.C. a high quality Router isn't that expensive but will give you a secure and steady connection.
Finally Contact your ISP if they don't want to help you setting up you internet connection they are not worth you money, and are probably trimming your speed down to an unacceptable level.

Your Internet provider or bt can test your line to see what speed you are running.Tiscali as you know is run from India
and takes a lot of patients,i moved from them.
Your speed also depends on how far your nearest
phone station is plus how thick your copper wire outside
phone line is,it may be old wire that knocks speed down.
Give BT a buzz and ask them to check your line an
broad band speed.
