Do I need to replace the timing belt in my Z-28?

I have 88000 miles and have never changed it. Is this something that needs to be changed, or is it just a part that is supposed to last the life of the engine?

Unless you run the engine at high rpm's or spin the tires creating torque on the motor, leave it alone!!!

You screw with those motors when they don't need it you may find yourself doing a lot more than what you planned.

The only time you should replace the timing chain is when the vehicle has the symptoms of a bad timing chain - timing goes up and down, the motor runs rough, the motor will backfire and be hard to start.

Otherwise leave it alone unless you know what you're doing.

You have a timing chain and they can last quite a while as long as you take care of the car (oil changes). You should be able to easily get over 100k miles on the stock chain.

You probably shouldn't mess with your engine unless you know what you are doing at least a little bit. Your car has a chain instead of a belt. You probably shouldn't mess with it.

I THINK YOU HAVE A CHAIN INSTEAD OF A BELT. IT'S OK.

If it's not causing problems-leave it alone.
