I actually own a 1998 Audi A6 Quattro and haven't had any problems with it what so ever except for replacing normal wear and tear parts like break pads and tires. Other then that I bought it with 54,000 miles and beat up on the car all the time and she runs beautiful.

That car is pretty sound. The turbo can go if the are driven hard but if the old owner ran synthetic and keep the oil changed it should last a long time. Also the do have some problems with the air flow meter.
Last and most common is the front control arms. The are aluminum and usually go out around 90 to 100K. Also if the car is an automatic those can be costly as most places will only replace them not rebuild them and that can run 3 to 4K. Take any car you want to buy to a shop and have them to an inspection on it.

With Audi, the power windows can get stuck open or closed. It is an easy fix. They just replace a little plastic piece.
The light bulbs are not known for lasting long.
The ignition coils might go bad faster than usual. There was a recall for that in 2002.
These are the only complaints I have heard of.
German cars usually have electrical problems.

audi have mostly electrical problems and have oil sludge problems also so if your looking into get a fax fax report to be sure the previous owner took well car of his audi ima an audi owner and the one i have bought seem to only have electrical problems such as windows sunroofs lights but all fixable DIY problems nothing to really stress over just be sure it only electrical those cars are expensive to fix at the audi dealers and not many people them because there not the easiest cars to work on ..parts can cost alot so watch out
