What is the name of the Police Warrant Search Database and...?

(For example, in the Tri State area), I was discussing with someone how the database works for police who do a search on a name for warrants.

I recalled that it's a somewhat haphazard system, with various state/counties hooked up for information sharing but not always in a logical way (ie; North Bergen New Jersey is hooked into sharing with Bronx and Manhattan NY, but not Queens (for computer search, otherwise it requires a phone call).

Is it still this way or have they updated the system?

Update:

Yes, but I thought there was an additional system on the local level for dealing with lesser Felony warrants and misdemeanors. This is actually what I was referring to.

Warrants can be placed in NCIC. That is the National Crime Information Computer. If a warrant shows up a phone call is still made to issuing department to verify the warrant.
