Am finished with my 1st draft, and am working on my first edit. Hope that it will get published by a company, yet I am expecting I'll have to self publish. Would like to ge advice from those who have used these types of companies. Real, detailed advice not like most answer that I find. Would like to ask many, many questions through e-mail. Anyone willing to spend some time with me? cagedraptor@yahoo.com

Update:

I really am glade people will spend time helping, thanks for any answer, but what I want is to talk with atleast one or two who have done it and get their personal take on the whole thing.

If you go to my profile you can find many starred Q and A regarding publishing and writing.

My personal law - I call it Persi's Law #1 is "If you believe in yourself and in your book, you should plan on spending at least twice as long trying to publish it traditionally as you did writing it."

Self publishing won't do anything for you. The average self published book sells about 100 copies or 2/3 as many friends and family as you have. Is that what you want for your book?

I decided to self publish my first book "I Can't Wait Till I'm Five" after I was turned down by literary agents. My book is featured on usabooknews.com in the children's non-fiction category. It is sold on Amazon and on my website Imaajinn.com. I am currently working on my second book. Self publishing allows you keep more of your earnings than if you decided to go with a traditional publisher. Yes, self publishing requires more work, but do you think the traditional publisher would work as hard as you would unless your a famous Author???.

Hi I have self-published with Lulu and sold a few books by download, and considering my own book publishing, but the problem really is costly marketing and distribution, an area which large publishers have the game sorted. Nevertheless I wish to help others self publish as it is so beneficial, therefore please send any sensible questions to me.

the internet has made it plausible for self-publishing to be a plausible determination for an author. It supplies greater human beings a voice, and helps categories of information to be reported. My adventure bargains quite often with comics. Up till these days, you had DC, ask your self, darkish Horse, and a few others. They desperate what made stable comics. in case you probably did no longer greater healthful into their standards, you have been S.O.L. they had some fairly specific standards for each writer. they did no longer take a lot of risks, and if pimply teenaged white boys did no longer like it, they does not print it. Then, webcomics got here alongside. initially revealed online, and in many circumstances amassed into commerce paperbacks later, there is no one telling them what they are in a position to and can't write. by surprise, we are seeing comics approximately all styles of issues that sizeable publishers concept might on no account sell. issues that are geared in the direction of human beings different than teenaged white boys. There are greater comics geared in the direction of women, gay human beings, human beings of color, and multiple different communities than there ever have been in the past. New memories are being instructed. And maximum of those underrepresented every physique is flocking to those new comics, desirous to work out something this is, for as quickly as, geared in the direction of them. at the same time as the inability of editors is a double edged sword (greater memories getting instructed, yet a lot of those memories ARE undesirable), a lot of those that are universal are so because of the fact of a undeniable high quality approximately them, the two tremendous paintings or writing, or humorous jokes. There are webcomics writers who've greater followers than X-adult men. every physique is waiting to make careers off of it, and followers are loving it. this is gotten to the factor the place DC and elegance attempt to make webcomics now! yet because of the fact the whole factor of webcomics has constantly been "author-owned, author-run", this is not determining too properly for them. So in end, sure, self-publishers are purely as a lot authors as traditionally-revealed authors. There are turds in the two piles, possibly greater turds interior the self publishing facet, yet purely because of the fact something is self-revealed does no longer propose this is undesirable, or no longer valid.

Please, do not go with self-publishing. It is a financial black hole. You have to do everything.

Yes, go with the traditonal publishers, but don't give up. All writers get rejection, you have to move on.
