Tony c q: A Logical fallacy question regarding an argument for the trinity:?
Some one used an argument saying that the trinity is proven in the bible because:
Matthew 1:18 says in part: "she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit"
Then the argument states that Jesus is called the son of God, and thus "God" is a term that includes the Holy Spirit, the Father, and the son.
Of course, this argument would have been great given the premise that the Holy Spirit is a being, but I am yet to see a verse that states that.
So my question is:
Is this argument simply a logical fallacy, or does the bible really back it up?
Please don't rush out after answering, as I plan to ask more detailed questions on the subject.
Actually, the bible refers to a lot of things as gods. At the end of the day, to make Christianity monotheistic, you believe in one God, and all the other gods are just considered powerful beings or objects with a powerful connotation. The multiple "gods" in the bible, does not actually mean they are "gods" like polytheist religions, it is basically a figure of speech.
Either way, the Holy Spirit isn't a being, and the trinity is, like you said, a logical fallacy.

It is clear that the bible does not support the christian traditional triad. It does however support the assertion that Jesus is the "Son" of God. That the holy ghost decended in the form of a dove at Jesus' baptism. That when jesus was on the cross he called out for his Father (not himself). Jesus also told us to pray to the father through him. Why not just pray to the "three headed god". The trinity was created by men in Nicea 300 years after Christ's death, because they didn't spend the time to try to get to know "the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom he sent".

The trinity is a logical fallacy period. No matter how you calculate it, Christianity has 3 gods. The way you make polytheism look like monotheism is you call it a trinity, and if someone asks just say man can't comprehend this mystery.
